Invisalign

Part of having a beautiful smile is having straight teeth. When you were a child or teenager, braces may not have been a priority or may have been out of your parents’ budget. Years ago, it was unheard of for an adult to wear braces, so most people just carried on with less than perfect teeth. The introduction of Invisalign® has helped many achieve the beautiful straight teeth so many people dream of.

Now you too can have straight teeth – without the braces! Instead of having metal pieces glued to your teeth with a wire pulling them together, Invisalign® uses clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. Made from plastic that is virtually invisible, most people won’t even realize you are wearing them!

Is Invisalign® a Good Choice for Me?

The first step to straighter teeth is to schedule a free consultation appointment with Dr. Peter. Invisalign® is an option for both teens and adults. Generally speaking, Invisalign® is a great tool for minor tooth adjustments, however, if you require more complex tooth movement or have jaw size discrepancy, other tools may prove to be more effective.

Invisalign® is typically a more expensive option compared to traditional treatments, and may not be the best choice for your budget. After examining your teeth, Dr. Peter will be able to explain all the options available to you and make an assessment as to whether Invisalign® is the most suited solution for your specific case. He will also be able to go over how each process works, their estimated costs and answer any questions you may have.

How Invisalign® Works

The first step to your Invisalign® treatment is an examination performed by Dr. Peter, followed by x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth. These images & moulds will be used to create a personalized treatment plan for you.

Your aligners are custom made specifically for your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gently and gradually shift your teeth into place. As your teeth begin to shift, you will need new aligners to guide them into their proper place. Depending on your treatment plan, this is typically every two weeks.

The aligners are made from BPA-free plastic and are smooth and comfortable. Unlike traditional braces, these aligners should not irritate your cheeks and gums. You will need to wear the aligners all day and night, removing them only to eat, brush and floss your teeth. It is recommended that you wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day throughout your treatment for the best results. Treatment length varies and depends largely on you, the patient, in adhering to the treatment plan!

Caring for Your Invisalign® Aligners

Taking care of your aligners is easy. You can brush and rinse them in lukewarm water. Much easier than trying to clean food out of metal braces! You can continue to brush and floss your teeth normally. It is important to remove your Invisalign® aligners whenever you eat or drink since hot liquids and foods can damage the aligners.

Why Choose Invisalign®?

There are a number of advantages to choosing Invisalign® over traditional braces. While both will effectively straighten your teeth, Invisalign® is far more comfortable, easier to clean and can be removed whenever you want. The removable aligners allow you to properly clean your teeth and eat your favourite foods without issues. Best of all, the clear aligners mean that nobody needs to know that you are wearing them!
